What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a fast-growing independent healthcare profession. It is the third largest primary healthcare profession in the world after medicine and dentistry. Chiropractic is concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and management of mechanical disorders of the spine, joints and muscles.
Chiropractors are skilled in spinal manipulation, a safe and highly effective form of treatment of spinal disorders. Chiropractors are best known for manual treatments of the spine (spinal manipulation) where they use their hands to improves mobility of stiff joints and relieve pain by restoring normal function.
Chiropractors also use soft tissue techniques such as deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, stretching and specific exercise programs as well as lifestyle advice.

What can I expect on my first visit?
On arrival, you will be asked to fill out a quick form which will give us a few personal details, as well as authorising us to perform a thorough chiropractic examination.
This will include:
Chiropractic treatment will usually follow your consultation, lasting around 15 to 20 minutes. Your treatment will be specific to your complaint and to you.
Subsequent treatments will last 20 minutes.
Will treatment hurt?
Chiropractic is generally painless.
Occasionally, you may hear and feel clicking or popping noise during treatment, but don't worry, this is completely normal.
You may feel slight tenderness, stiffness or tiredness for a day or so after treatment.
Training for chiropractors
Chiropractors are highly trained. They train for 5 years full time.
Caroline, chiropractor and owner of Back & Body Works Chiropractic Clinics is a graduate of the
Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (www.aecc.ac.uk) located in Bournemouth. She graduated in
September 2001.
Chiropractors are also required to undertake continuing professional development in order to stay up to date with current advances in research and patient care.
Registered Chiropractors:
Caroline is registered with the GCC and is also a member of the British Chiropractic Association (BCA) (www.chiropractic-uk.co.uk), the largest established professional body in the United Kingdom.
Can anyone be a Chiropractor?
Since July 2001 it is illegal for anyone to imply that they are, or call themselves a Chiropractor unless they are registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC).
This is the statutory body setting standards for our profession as well as protect patients and promote our profession.
